Tile Table 2021

My mom has been asking me to build her a small table for a couple of months now. I have no problem with the idea and she even sent me pictures of what she is looking for. The only problem is she wants very specific kind of tiles for the top but she hasn’t been able to find them. Till then. My wife found an empty wire spool. She thought it could make a good table so we went over to home depot and bought some tiles and grout. The wood that would be the top of the table itself had a few hole in it. one about 3″ and another about 1″ needed to be covered. I used my router to cut out the area so the covers would be flush to the top and then I glued them in place. I designed the pattern on my computer. We bought two kinds of tile, black and white. The tiles are sold as ~1′ squares with all the small pieces held in place on a net like structure. We cut them apart and then applied a thin coat of adhesive & grout to the entire surface. After that, it was a mad dash to apply the grout and arrange the tiles in the 15 minute window that the grout directions allowed. It went faster than we though and the spacing ended up being fairly even and although the pattern is not perfectly circular, it looks damn good. I then washed grout in-between the tiles. My wife added grey material around the base and a ruffle around the edge. Our cat Noel really liked the table. She would sit on it every chance she got and would growl if someone tried to move her. We gave it to my mom for her birthday and she loved it, not as a table though. She had my brother remove the base and mount it on the wall. I have to admit it does look nice there.
